Finding Yourself

Everyone is on a quest to find themselves. Who are you? What is my purpose? Why am I here? Profound and, depending on context, quite pretentious questions. But actually questions that I think we all, at some point in our lives, will ponder.

And we hope for an answer and look for it in strange places. But, we expect an answer.

I propose an alternative.

I would prefer to never truly know myself. I don't want to look for myself and then find myself and then just simple be myself.

I want to always be looking and always finding something slightly different, something new, something unexplored.

Because the search brings you to wonderful wonderful places.

The search cannot end. The truth is that the search is always the answer. The best part of anything is the journey. And if it isn't, then you're traveling the wrong way.

I understand the priviledge of my words.

Whole swaths of the peoples of history never had, and far too many individuals living today will never have, the means ond opportunity to ever even begin the search, not even imagine it, not even learn that it is possible.

We need new governance to finally create that quite attainable utopia. but, when you have the chance to search, just keep searching. That’s a project for another day, or career.

You might get close sometimes, you might feel like you've found yourself. In fact, I hope you do feel that way. It is intoxicating and enchanting, a profound experience.
but time should change you. you should always change within the tides and winds of the life that you live.

You should always change and you should always find yourself in the realization that, once found, you will once again be lost to history, just a memory in time, and you set out again to seek who you are becoming. That's a life.

I hope that I die still wondering.

What a joy it would be to never accept that less is possible, that change cannot happen.

If you don't know who you are, if you don't quite feel like yourself, go find yourself. It requires change. It requires novelty and exploration, it requires an adventure, a grand adventure.

Go places, do things, see things, things you've never done in places you've never been and things you've never seen.

I'm not talking a month long trip to Europe. Go to a museum, go on a run, go ride a bike, read a book from a genre you've never read, go see a play, go to library, just go do something tomorrow that is different from what you would have done for the last, idk, however long you've been feeling this way.

Just go do something different.

You'll love it or hate it, but either way, you'll know something about yourself.

For instance, I don't care that much about fireworks. I like that they remind me of my grand father, but the actual firework never excited me all that much. Except once when I was in Peoria as a kid.

Anyway, go do something new. You'll find yourself, I assume you. and once you've found yourself, keep the adventure rolling, keep looking, cuz you'll be a little bit different everyday, in increasingly wonderful ways, if you keep your heart open.

So, I guess that I’m thinking about finding yourself, the eternal quest of mankind.

Anyway, leave a comment. Let’s talk.
